Halloween cat

The black hole that is Facebook

Several days ago, my husband cut out an article from USA Today about self publishing. Featured in it is a young woman who writes youth novels and sells them mostly on Amazon's Kindle for like 99 cents.

Last year she sold over 450 THOUSAND copies. O_o

Now she gets to keep 70 per copy. You do the math.

She notes that she agressively blogs and networks on Facebook.

I kept looking at this article and wishing I could sell a hundred copies a month and that would make me happy. And that I'd give anything to just quit the job from hell so I could stay home and work full time on the various novels I've got going on.

And so I finally caved in and created a Facebook account for Gwenna. I have no idea what I'm doing on it, haven't figured it out, have no picture to put on it although I may try to upload the cover to Lost and Found. I consider Facebook a black hole, I do. But the sad fact is, if you can create a presence on there, you will create interest and sales. I just don't know how to yet. I don't know a lot of people, I don't "social network" and I've got like 4 people who friended Gwenna's blog and that's it. I'm not sure that going to the evil empire that is Facebook is going to change any of that but at this point, I'm willing to try anything.

Anyway, for those who might be interested, here is the USA Today article- Authors Can Catch Fire with Self Published eBooks.
