It's more of a "To Do" list

I'm not much on New Year's resolutions- mostly because I fail at them miserably so why set myself up for it right out of the gate? Besides, I'm already working on the weight and exercise issue so other than sticking to it as best I can (and forgiving myself when I fail), I have no real expectations that will make me a better person.

But I have decided to have a To Do list that I will work on. I prefer the idea of tasks, things that are reasonable for me and actually obtainable for the most part. I always feel like I've accomplished something when I check off things and it actually makes me feel good. Who am I to argue with that? So I'll go with that and check them off as I go along.

This is not to be confused with my life list.  (Most people call it a Bucket List but I've called it my Life List for 20 years.) That I pull out in April for my birthday and check off what I accomplished and what I want to accomplish next.

So here is DC's 2011 To Do List.

Things I want to get done this month (January):

Finish up VN2 and have submitted by the end of the month. (It's realistic if I set my mind to it.)

Clean out, sort, organize and put my workroom in order. I do have a nice space here and if I clean it up and out, I can make it work for both my fandom and regular writing as well as my vidding.

Organize both my knitting and cross stitch patterns. This is just a matter of getting file sorters and dumping the entire lot on my dining room table and actually putting them in the file folders.

I'll set myself up some other "monthly" tasks as they come along. On a "I need more time" basis I have the following I'd like to check off.

Things I want to get done by end of June:

Finish writing Firebase October. This is my Mark/Ryan story, the prequel to Lost and Found. Again, it's realistic if I set my mind to it. (And because I'm no longer teaching at night!)

Finish at least one of the three ToD songvids I've got started and one in my new fascination- H5-O. If I get my workroom in order, I'll have a place I can leave my big laptop set up to do just that.

Have the redesign of Gwenna's webpage done and posted.
Have the redesign of Journals' webpage done and posted.

Things I'd like to make happen by this time next year:

Finish writing Then and Now. This is my sequel to Lost and Found. I think it's pushing it for me but if I set a deadline, I'll work on it and possibly have it ready by the end of January 2012.

Try to get some shorter pieces entered in anthology call outs. There is one due in February for "men in uniform" that I'd love to write something for. Set in Vietnam. So I'm going to try and wrap my head around that and pound it out. And make an effort to get in on some other ones.

Have a good start on Melody Blue. This is my WWII novel. I've got pretty much everything in place for it. But I want to get VN2, Firebase October and Then and Now done first.

Have my current ToD writing project Fallout completed. This will continue to take a backseat to my regular writing but I'd love to see it through and posted.

So there you have it. I've got it written up and in my daytimer as well as my spiral notebook that goes everywhere with me. I don't expect I'll accomplish all of these tasks, or the ones I do get done, to be done necessarily on time. But like I've said, I'm much better with To Do list and if I can get done half of what I've got on here, I'll feel pretty damn good.

It helps that I formally resigned from the teaching job- that being my second job. The rest is now up to me.
